I have been running a scan around 12:00pm EST for 4% gainers/losers with over 500K volume and this stock popped up and caught my eye. This is the trade that saved the day. The stock was forming a flattop breakout with the 9 EMA squeezing upwards. I went long at 2.37 with 1000 shares and a stop-loss at 2.25. I scaled out 200 shares on the first pop. The stock never gave any reasons to sell and the 9 EMA was never broken so I held on for the rally. I scaled out 300 shares more at 2.62 and the rest as the stock shot up to 2.95. I reloaded another 500 shares as the stock pulled back to the 9 EMA with a stop-loss at 2.62. I should have bought as the stock was a bit tighter to the 9 EMA to manage my risk a bit better. Stock popped and I scaled out 200 shares at 2.93. It couldn't break above the high at 2.95. It made a lower high and began flushing. My stop-loss was triggered at 2.70, selling the remainder of my shares. As the stock made a lower high I should have been looking to exit instead of waiting for my stop to trigger. At this point in the day the stock was up at least 80% and if it is making a lower high, my position has now been invalidated and I should have been looking to exit immediately.
