*Feelings- What were your feelings during the trade? Rested and ready to trade.
*Evaluation- What was good or bad about the trade? Good: Walmart was gapping up strong on positive earnings news which was the company's biggest post-earnings gain in 4 years. SPY was also gapping up premarket, so I took a continuation trade to the long side. Bad: The price started to drop, and I felt trapped as I wanted to exit around breakeven before the market open, but the price continued to gap down to uncomfortable levels. The price recovered and I had an opportunity to take profit at 10:55 around 150.27, but greed took over as I felt this was a strong market that could push the price to 151 and 152 and I missed the chance to make this a profit day. The price action continued to consolidate for the rest of the day, and I exited at break of VWAP.
*Analysis- Does the trade make sense to you now that it is over? Not at all.
*Conclusion- What is the final judgement of the trade? This was a loss day on two fronts: 1) I didn't follow my rule of not trading in the premarket 2) I didn't take profit because of greed.
*Action Plan- How are you going to avoid the mistakes you made on this trade? How are you going to make sure you get the same results the next time if the trade was good? Respect my rule of not trading in the premarket and take profit when the opportunity is present. Regardless of stock catalyst I need to pay strict attention to what the charts are doing and avoid directional biases when trading.
