Account Tags

Account tags in Tradervue are used to separate trades from different trading accounts, and to control the way new trade executions are merged with existing trades.

Account tags are just normal tags; however, when a tag is specified during an import as an account tag, the import behavior is changed.

The use of account tags requires a silver or gold subscription.

Default Behavior

By default, Tradervue will allow at most one open position in any underlying symbol. If you have an open trade, and a new execution for that symbol is imported (including any option contract for that symbol), that execution will be applied to the open trade. This may close the existing trade, or the existing trade may remain open.

There are two situations where this might not be the desired behavior:

1. If you are trading in multiple trading accounts, you may have a position in a particular symbol in multiple accounts, and you may want to keep these trades completely separate in Tradervue. For example, you might have a longer-term SPY position open in your swing account, and you might be trading in and out of SPY intraday in your trading account. The default behavior in Tradervue, without account tags, would be to merge all of this activity in SPY together into one trade.
    
   
2. If you maintain both long-term and short-term positions in a single account, you may want to keep these positions separate in Tradervue. For example, you may have long-term LEAP call in AAPL, and you may also trade weekly options in and out of AAPL. Tradervue's default behavior, without account tags, would be to merge all of this activity into a single trade.

Account Tags

Using tags is a great way to mark trades as coming from multiple accounts, as they allow you to filter and report on your trades all together, or separated by account. If you trade different instruments in the different accounts, there is nothing special you need to do - normal tags will work fine.

However, if you sometimes trade the same instruments in multiple accounts, you will need to use account tags to segregate your trades.

Account tags are just normal tags, but applied as "account tags" during the import process. To import using an account tag, click the "Use an account tag for this import" on the import page. Enter a tag to use for the specific account you are importing (e.g. "swing"), and import as normal. Be careful to use the "account tag" field - you can also apply normal tags to the impport at the same time, but the import behavior is different when using an account tag.

Be consistent. If you are planning to use account tags for multiple accounts, always use them on every import.

Using account tags means that Tradervue can have multiple open positions in a particular symbol.

How Account Tags Work

When you import trade data without an account tag, the following happens for each execution found in the import data:

1. Look for existing open trades in the same symbol as the new execution being imported.
2. If an existing open trade is found, apply the new execution to that trade.

When you import using an account tag "account1", the behavior is different:

1. Look for existing open trades tagged with "account1" in the same symbol as the new execution being imported.
2. If an existing open trade is found, apply the new execution to that trade.

So an import tagged with an account tag will only merge with existing trades having that same tag.
